We all know what a scarecrow is. But this kids activity needs a new name if for no other reason than that it’s got really cool hair. Let’s call it a ScareGrow!
What you’ll need:
- Burlap or burlap pouch
- Grass seeds
- Potting soil
- Buttons
- Rubber bands or a durable string
- Glue gun or thread and needle
Make the Face:
With the open-ended side of the burlap pouch facing down, glue or sew on eyes, a nose and a mouth. If you cannot find a premade burlap pouch, sew one together using burlap. Set aside and let glue dry.
Fill the Pouch and Tie:
Open up the burlap pouch and layer in 1/8 inch of potting soil. Sprinkle in grass seeds. Then fill up the burlap pouch full with potting soil. Close the burlap pouch shut using a rubber band or tie.
Water the ScareGrow:
Place the ScareGrow in a pan. Water day and night until burlap is drenched. Make sure to place your scaregrow where it can get plenty of sunlight. You will begin to see the ScareGrow's "hair” sprout in 7-14 days.
