Building Great Relationships in Middle Childhood

(Strong Attachment Series Part Two)
by Rebecca Eanes

Continued...

  • Tell them stories of your childhood. This not only helps your child get to know you better which strengthens the connection, but it’s important for them to hear that you went through similar experiences and can relate to their situations.
  • Show respect when you correct your child. Try to avoid correcting them in front of their peers as this can be humiliating and may lead to mistrust. Use positive discipline.

The way we responded to our children in infancy and early childhood was important for their development, and yet they will rarely have memories of those years. When they look back on their childhood as adults, their memories of home and of you will begin in these years. Stay connected and make lots of beautiful memories.
