Sure, shopping for new school supplies may be a bit more costly than you’d hoped, but by allowing your child to be a part of this process, you are giving them the opportunity to establish ownership over their upcoming school year. Go through the list with them, have them choose a few items that they will be responsible for choosing, and allow them to make choices that bring a smile to their face. There is nothing like a backpack full of the coolest notebooks and erasers! You can check out some of my favorite back to school supplies here.
If your child is beginning to express some anxiety about the upcoming school year, avoid laughing it off or telling them to “get over it.” Their feelings are just as real and valid as any adult’s, and deserve the patience and respect of a conversation to help talk them through their woes.
Bonus Tip:
Try doing yoga with your child to help ease their anxieties. The benefits of yoga for kids are becoming increasingly recognized. If you have other tips for combatting back to school jitters, share them with us in the comments section!
