Decorating Christmas trees is just as much fun when it’s a Rice Krispies tree that you’re dressing up. These festive treats are fun, economical and oh-so-easy to make! Great to serve in bulk for holiday parties both at home or in the classroom. Definitely try this kid's kitchen recipe.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
- 6 cups of mini marshmallows or 24 large marshmallows
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Sprinkles, icing and other decorative toppings
- 8” round cake pan
- Optional: green food coloring
- Optional: Lollipop Sticks
Directions:
- Place marshmallows and butter in a large bowl.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute and 30 seconds or until they puff up.
- Remove from microwave and stir well. Be careful: contents will be hot!
- If you opt to add food coloring, add a couple of drops into marshmallows and stir.
- Slowly pour in Rice Krispies and stir. Make sure to coat the marshmallows thoroughly.
- Place the sticky Rice Krispies mixture into round cake pan.
- Firmly press into pan, making Rice Krispies level and compact.
- Let Rice Krispies sit for 20 minutes. They need to harden in order to stick together.
- When Rice Krispies are cool and firm, flip round pan over onto cutting board and remove Rice Krispies round.
- Using a serrated knife cut into 6 slices. For skinnier trees, you can cut into 8 slices.
- If adding the lolly sticks, do this now! It can help with the decorating as well so you don't have to hold the sticky treats in your hand!
- Decorate Rice Krispies trees using frosting and sprinkles.
- To gift individually, enclose each Rice Krispies tree into translucent gift bag and tie with a ribbon.
